2023 Transactions at Bass Sox Mercer

Bass Sox Mercer closed 63 transactions in 2023. Those transactions took place in 19 different states, covered 46 linemakes, and involved 73 rooftops. 

The closed transactions involved dealerships located in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. BSM has now closed transactions in all but seven states – Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, Maine, Montana, Rhode Island, and South Dakota.  

The closings involved the following brands: BMW (vehicle), Buick, Caterpillar, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Club Car, Cummins, Dodge, Floe, Ford, Genesis, GEM, GMC, Harley-Davidson, Honda (powersports), Honda (vehicles), Hyundai, Infiniti, Jeep, John Deere, Kawasaki, Kia, Kymco, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mercury, Navistar, Nissan, Polaris, Porsche, Porta-Dock, Ram, Royal Enfield, Scarab, Sea-Doo, Stihl, Subaru, Suzuki, Toro, Toyota, Trophy, Vanderhall, Volkswagen, Volvo Cars, Yamaha (marine), and Yamaha (powersports). 

The buy-sell market in 2023 was very active, although it did not reach the highs seen several year ago. We saw previously active buyers reduce the number of acquisitions or stop them all together. Some were concerned about the market and high interest rates, others wanted to focus on the dealerships they acquired in 2021 and 2022. The gap they left, however, seemed to be filled with international buyers and small dealers finally making the decision to expand. We expect 2024 to be another active year. If there is a reduction in rates, which is now being speculated, that may boost the market further.
